Sundial at the minigolf court at the Greenwich promenade
Tegel within the district Berlin-Reinickendorf is in the North North West
of Berlin and it is an all year excursion area for Berlin citizen with the
green places Tegel forest and the Tegel lake shore, of which the Greenwich
promenade is a part of. The promenade has its name from a city partnership
between Berlin-Tegel and London-Greenwich. At the Northern end of the promenade
there is the Sechserbrücke - a footbridge as a steel construction from
the 19th century. The bridge was financed by private people, and the
crossing of the bridge had cost a "Sechser" (comparable with a Sixpence -
nowadays the crossing of the bridge is free). In front of the
Sechserbrücke there is a minigolf court with some nice gadgets, where
one of them is a working sundial:
Collage to the sundial at the minigolf court at the Greenwich promenade, late summer 1998
The collage is referencing to 10 photographies (done with a Pentax MZ-5 and
a Minox 35ML) of late summer 1998 around the Greenwich promenade and the
sundial at the minigolf court:
- Tegel, church (95760 Bytes JPEG,
340x500) - On the way from the underground station Alt-Tegel (which is the
Northern most station of the line 6) to the Greenwich promenade one is
passing the protestantic village church with its specific broad bell tower.
- Tegel, Sechserbrücke
(65331 Bytes JPEG, 500x340) at sunset, seen from the beside the connection
channel to the Tegel haven.
- Minigolf court with sundial
(84360 Bytes JPEG, 500x340) - with a view to the Tegel lake, seen from the
Sechserbrücke.
- Club house of the rowing club Tegel
(69025 Bytes JPEG, 500x340) - At the other side of the Sechserbrücke
at the Tegel lake there is the house of the rowing club Tegel...
- Tegel, Greenwich promenade
(42963 Bytes JPEG, 500x340) - view to the Tegel lake at sunset.
- Tegel, Greenwich promenade,
North end (31215 Bytes JPEG, 500x340) - another view to the Tegel lake
at sunset. The half way visible island to the left side is called Hasselwerder.
On the other side of the lake there is the garden of the Borsig villa and the
Tegel forest.
- Tegel, Greenwich promenade,
entry (37262 Bytes JPEG, 480x320) - view to the Greenwich-Promenade
with rain clouds as seen from the pedestrian zone of the street Alt-Tegel.
Behind the bushes at the left side of the image there is the roof of an
original English telefone box, which is one of the English utensils like
post box fire-alarm pillar, laterns and historic cannons at the promenade.
- Tegel, Greenwich promenade,
scenery (77671 Bytes JPEG, 340x500) - at halfway good weather one of the
constants at the Greenwich promenade are the sweets, watch, and jewelry dealer.
Before the holiday season the main street of Alt-Tegel normally becomes a
small christmas market, then.
- Tegel, at the Sechserbrücke
(65298 Bytes JPEG, 654x440) - The official name of the Sechserbrücke is
"Tegeler-Hafen Brücke" (Tegel haven bridge), but probably no Berlin
citizen is using this name. So why is the bridge painted red since its
construction time? Because the cheapest derusting paint is red? As a warning
color for ships not to ram the low bridge? As an advertising for using the
bridge and not taking the long way around the haven from the time when the
crossing of the bridge had to be paid? Your guess might be as good as mine.
At the scanned photo graffiti at the bridge was removed electronically.
- The sundial of the minigolf
court (102263 Bytes JPEG, 340x460) - ...on a late afternoon
with autumn leaves and stacked rowing boats in the background.
